By special arrangement, Dr. Cliff Cheng, Neighborhood Preparedness Ambassador, http://www.certsponsor.s5.com/, (volunteer of the LA City Emergency Management Dept.) has negotiated with our good neighbors in the City of Hollywood to permit residents of LA City neighborhoods adjacent to their city, to be placed on a waiting list for possible inclusion in West Hollywood's yearly CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) course. To learn more about CERT, see http://www.certsponsor.s5.com/. For dates and times of WeHo's next CERT course, see the flyer below.
WeHo's once yearly CERT course is very attractive to LA city residents for it is a weekend class. In LA city CERT classes are taught on a 7 weeknight, once per week format. About a ¼ to a 1/3 of the class in LA does not finish all 7 sessions because of work, school, family, travel, illness and other demands which make 7 weeknights in a row un-do-able. For this reason, Dr. Cheng, who has set-up CERT classes for 400 neighbors and others, has been working for 2 years to reach out to the City of West Hollywood to ask if they would let their LA neighbors (the ones who live adjacent to WeHo) to have any empty seats in their course. WeHo graciously agreed. WeHo will even give LA City residents who graduate a free CERT kit (back pack with a CERT hard hat, vest, 1st aid kit).
If you previously took a LA City Fire Dept. (LAFD) CERT class and did not finish, West Hollywood will not give you credit for those classes. West Hollywood CERT courses are taught by the LA County Fire Dept.
You must attend all 22.5hrs. of the West Hollywood CERT course to graduate and receive your free CERT kit and certificate.
It is a privilege for LA city residents to attend a CERT class in the City of West Hollywood; not a right. West Hollywood CERT is a resource which belongs to the residents of West Hollywood. West Hollywood is a separate city from LA, and funds their classes from taxes paid by their residents. There has already been a previous incident a LA resident caused. Another incident is to be avoided. Please be a respectful and considerate guest of the City of West Hollywood. LA city residents may request to Dr. Cheng to be added to the waiting list for last minute inclusion in WeHo's CERT course.
Class members must be 18 years of age or older. There are no physical fitness requirements. Preference is given to LA city residents in the neighborhood adjacent to the City of West Hollywood. Added preference is given to emergency personnel, healthcare providers, teachers, amateur radio operators, Red Cross, construction workers, and neighborhood leaders.
Each individual should separately send an email to, Dr. Cheng, Neighborhood Preparedness Ambassador, CERTsponsor (at) gmail (dot) com. In your email please include:
