As Neighborhood Preparedness Ambassador, Cliff Cheng, PhD, KI6CM, CERT 2, organized a free CERT 1 disaster preparedness course at Hancock Park Elementary School in the early winter of 2007.  While the school is called Hancock Park School, it is actually in Fairfax District; one door from the Grove at Fairfax Ave. and 3rd St.   

The class was sponsored by the Neighborhood Emergency Radio Project www.NERP.myEweb.net, Mid City West Community Council www.mcwcc.org and the West of Fairfax Neighbors, www.freewebs.com/westof.  

A special thanks to Marielen Martin, CERT 2 who assisted in the class.  

The class had 37 persons in it (see below). 

Congradulations to the 12 graduates: (in alphabetical order)  Daniel Bonwelter, Amy Estey, Henry Forgione, Bob Friedman, Grace Jones, Karen Madrid, Jim Manzie, Joan Osby, Patti Price, Jack Quinn, Jim Rea, and Carolyn Sumida.   

Thanks to Selene Ting who took the class last year and sat in on a session this year as a refresher.  We support people who want to learn and keep their skills sharp.   

Dr. Cheng extends his congratulations to those who finished the course and graduated later.

Free  Disaster Preparedness Course

LA City Fire Dept. teaches a free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) disaster preparedness 7 night course

 

Learn about earthquake preparedness, light firefighting, triage, first aid, light excavation, disaster psychology, rescue team organization and management. 

Must be 18 or over.  Non-LA city residents welcome.  No obligation to join a CERT team. LAUSD teachers get salary point. www.cert-LA.com.  You can make-up any missed class sessions.  

 

 Tuesdays, 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (7 consecutive evening sessions)
