Additional Resources - Class 5, Search and Rescue (SAR)

In CERT only LIGHT Search and Rescue (SAR) is done.  Safety of the CERT team is the first priority! 

There is no national SAR agency.  Each county Sheriff has jurisdiction over SAR.  As a result SAR is practiced very differently county to county.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Search & Rescue

LA Sheriff's Search and Rescue is comprised of both sworn reserves and civilian volunteers.  All members are EMT qualified. 



National Association for Search and Rescue (NASAR)

National Association for Search and Rescue (NASAR) is a nonprofit agency which promotes SAR.  They have the closest thign to a national certification standard, however many local agencies do not follow the standard. 



SAR City

SAR City is a yearly training event over Columbus Day weekend in October sponsored by the Barstow Desert Rescue Squad of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.  See page on this website - SAR City.
