Kate Hutton, Ph.D., California Inst. of Technology Tour of the California Institute of Technology (Cal Tech) Seismology Lab, xxxx, 2008, Sat. with Dr. Kate Hutton

Dr. Kate Hutton of the California Institute of Technology's Seismic Lab is one of the most frequently interviewed earthquake experts on TV.   She is one of the media's go-to experts after an earthquake has occurred.  Dr. Cliff Cheng, Neighborhood Preparedness Ambassador, has arranged for a special tour of the Cal Tech Seismic Lab on Saturday, xxxx, 2008 with Dr. Hutton as our tour guide.  This is a very special opportunity to listen and ask questions of a leading seismologist in a small group setting!

This tour is part of our continuing disaster preparedness free educational efforts we give to our neighbors and friends.  On August 1, 2007, we had a very successful earthquake lecture.  A week later, on August 8, 2007 there was a 4.6 earthquake in Chatsworth.

For parents, this is an educational opportunity for their children.  We have allocated half of our spaces to parents and children.

We live in a post-9-11 world in which security is an important concern.  We will be touring a sensitive research lab.  Your cooperation with security measures is asked for.

Walking/Standing Tour, No Chairs - We will be touring a working scientific lab.  It was not built for tourists.  There are very few chairs available.  In the hallways where many of the displays are, there are no seats.   Consider before applying, that you will have to stand for part or most of an hour.

Limited Space and Preferences -  There are limited spaces.  Given the strong demand for our successful earthquake lecture on Aug. 1, 2007, and recent earthquake, 4.6 Chatsworth, Aug. 8, 2007, we expect this event to fill quickly.  We are giving preference to the neighbors and members of the sponsoring organizations.  We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.

Security Restrictions - We will be touring a restricted area.  We will promptly enter the facility at the appointed time as a group after IDs are checked.  Late-comers will not be admitted.  Tour goers must be pre-registered.  No drop-ins allowed.  Please bring your California driver's license.  Avoid straying from the tour.   Your full cooperation with security restrictions is asked for.  Anyone not in compliance will be asked to leave.

Location - The location of the tour will be given out to those who are pre-registered.  Again, you must be on-time or you will not be admitted.  We will entered this secure facility as a group.  They can not let you in separately.

Adults' Tour, 12:45pm

Parent and Children' Tour 1:45pm - The tour is in a secured facility.  Parental supervision is required.  One adult per child.  Cal Tech asks that children be in at least the 6th grade, if not older, and be capable of sustaining their attention for a hour.   Parents are asked to ensure the good behavior of their children.

Application - If you are in agreement with the aforementioned, then please send an email requesting pre-registration to Dr. Cliff Cheng, Neighborhood Preparedness Ambassador, CERTsponsor - at - gMail -dot-com     Include in your email the names, email addresses, phone numbers and addresses of all the people in your party.  Tell us how you heard about the event.
